Revealed: The Surprising Myths About Organic Food You Probably Never Knew

Organic foods and drinks often get touted as being better for us. We get sold them on the premise they are free of pesticides and chemicals. Of course, one has to pay a premium for such a guarantee. Another claim made by organic food firms is that their products taste better.

If you buy organic foods and drinks, this blog post will shock you. Why? Because it will reveal the myths surrounding organic items. Here is what you need to know:

Organic Healthy Foods

Myth: Organic foods and drinks have a nutritional edge

It won’t take you long to spot some organic products that claim to have more nutritious content in them. You may not know it, but many studies have shown that they don’t have an edge to non-organic variants! So, if you’ve been buying organic food because you think it’s healthier, think again! You will still get the same nutritional benefits from non-organic items.

Myth: Organic food and drinks taste better

Marketing companies do a good job of promoting the supposed benefits of organic products. But, what they seldom do is reveal the truth about what they claim.

Any food and drink that you buy will taste great! All you have to do is ensure that the product is “in date” and fresh. Organic foods and drinks can’t guarantee that they taste better than non-organic ones.

Myth: Organic food is better for the environment

No-one can argue that pesticides often do more damage than good. Especially if they end up getting consumed by humans. For that reason, organic foods have the edge.

But, they aren’t generally better for the environment than non-organic items. Why? More land is needed to grow organic crops or raise cattle in an organic way. If all food were organic, we’d have to clear forests for more space. Plus, there would be less food per acre of land available to grow.

Myth: Technology isn’t used in organic dairy farms

I hate to break it to you, but organic dairy farmers still rely on technology! If organic milk conjured up visions of people milking cows by hand, you’re very much mistaken. Farmers used the same dairy machinery as their non-organic dairy farm competitors. Don’t believe me? Visit your nearest milk parlor to see for yourself how the process works!

Myth: Organic food will become cheaper as time goes on

I’m afraid there is no sign of that happening anytime soon! Organic food and drinks cost more to produce. That means those extra fees must get passed onto you, the consumer. Even if the world only consumed organic foods and drink, prices wouldn’t get any cheaper.

Myth: Organic fruit and vegetables don’t need to get washed

Those organic apples and carrots you bought might look ready to eat. But, you still need to wash them first! Why? Organic farms are often susceptible to E. coli. I even recommend that you wash organic products that get marked as “ready to eat” for the same reasons.
