We have been waiting since the Detroit auto show in January to see the most capable track Corvette ever produced to finally hit the roads. At last, the first Z06 has been sold for $1 million at a Barrett-Jackson auction in Palm Beach, Fla.
All proceeds from this car went to benefit the Karmanos Cancer Institute. The Z06 was the star of the show among a host of exotic cars at the three-day auction. The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 sold for a cool $500,000 while the Ford Mustang “Need for Speed” fastback sold for $300,000.
Other cars sold include a 1946 Ford Sportsman convertible, 1979 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst Coupe, 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Spyder, and 1968 Shelby GT500 convertible. But this was just the beginning, as a total of 509 were sold grossing around $25 million in sales.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 features a supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that produces a ferocious 625 horsepower and 635 lb-ft of torque. It is also distinguished by its blacked-out wheels, carbon fiber accents, and bold yellow paint job.
The Corvette Z06 doesn’t officially go on sale until early next year. We can’t wait to get behind the wheel of this one when it arrives.
