A common feeling within people is that it is ‘too late’ to do something. These feelings are real, and sometimes – they are right. For example, if you’re 67 – you might want to avoid taking part in intensive physical activities for health reasons; and if you’re a mother, you can’t exactly go back to life before the baby! However, a lot of the time – these feelings are false. There isn’t much in life that is too late to achieve.
A career change and education are two things often put off because they are ‘too late.’ When people get a little bit older, they get scared about drastic changes, and can use the excuse of it being ‘too late in life’ to carry out the changes that they want. When it comes to changing a career path, or gaining education – this can be right. These are common thoughts.
These are false though – it is absolutely never too late for the change that you want to bring into your life. Never. If you want to follow your dreams then you should, and not much should be able to stop you – and if you are holding yourself back for whatever reason, maybe you should think about letting go? Of course, there are some very real reasons for holding back from change – but if this is making you unhappy, you must ask yourself why you are doing this to yourself.
Take education for example. If you want to gain a degree in a certain area or subject, what is stopping you and how can you change it? Distance and location aren’t an issue, not anymore. You can learn online, and you can gain an online MA in Education Technology through accredited online degrees. Learning doesn’t have to take place in person, and with online courses offering huge amounts of material for your learning, an online course doesn’t mean you miss out, not at all. Money might be another issue, but loans can be gained – there isn’t much that should be able to stop from you from gaining the education that you want. Not even age.
As for changing career? Well, education might be a precursor for that; but seriously, it’s never too late to change a career path and follow your dreams. The age of retirement is constantly being pushed up and we are expected to work later into our lives, so why wouldn’t we consider a career change late on? If we do one thing from twenty to forty, why wouldn’t we consider changing that from forty to sixty? It’s worth considering. You don’t have to limit your career changes as well, if something isn’t right – it’s not right for you, is it? The skills that you gain throughout your career don’t evaporate, and permanent opportunities can be found. It’s never too late to change your line of work, so don’t let something like age put you off. It might be harder when you’re older, but it can be done. Anything can be done.
