Ten Ways To Make Your Home a Healthier Place To Be

When you think about your health and wellness, do you think about how you home can have an impact? It would seem that many people don’t think about this aspect of health and wellness and it can cause quite a few problems. There are a lot of things in our home that can be making us unwell. So here are some things that you should eliminate from your home where possible. You’ll feel much better for it.

Home a Healthier Place

1- Get an air purifier

One of the best ways to be healthy is to be breathing in clean air. So an easy way to make sure that the air in your home is clean is by using an air purifier. It can help a lot!

2- Ditch the scented candles

Normal scented candles tend to be made from paraffin, which is a byproduct of oil refinement. Then it gets heated when used as a candle. So you can just imagine the toxins in the candle that are being emitted. Switch to soy or beeswax candles if they are something that you like to have in the home.

3- Avoid chemical cleaners

When you only clean your home with chemicals it can actually have the reverse effect making your home an unhealthier place to be. Look for natural alternatives, including using essential oils for cleaning, and you’ll notice the difference.

4- Control the light with blinds

If too much light gets into the house when you’re trying to sleep, then it will affect how much sleep you’re able to get. So use blinds or blackout curtains to make sure you can sleep better. Better sleep means better health.

5- Clear out your food cupboard

This is a simple one that will help you to be healthier. Simply clear out your food cupboards, of all the things that shouldn’t really be in there. Jars or peanut butter that has more sugar than peanuts in, for example? Throw out or give to a food bank. Then you won’t have any temptation in the house.

6- Grow your own

If you have some outside space, then start growing some of your own fruits or vegetables. Even a small herb garden can be a good place to start.

7- Clean away the dust

Too much dust can lead to coughing or breathing problems; even allergies. So make dusting the home a regular part of your cleaning routine.

8- Consider a water filter

Like with the air, it could be a good idea to get a water filter. You don’t want there to drinking in some dregs from the old pipes in your home. In fact, if the pipes in your home aren’t iodized with copper and silver then it could leave the susceptible to be a hotbed for things like legionella. Drinking contaminated water isn’t going to help your health.

9- Use glass, not plastic

When you have leftovers and reheat them, the plastic in them will seep into the food. So make sure that you use glass instead, and that won’t affect your health like plastic does.

10- Throw away the non-stick

Non-stick pans can be great when cooking. But they are no good for your health. Where do you think the non-stick coating comes from? Chemicals! You don’t want that getting heating and being where your food is.
